UF makes up ground with Greens

by

Early on in the recruiting season, Christian Green’s name was synonymous with Florida recruiting. When people talked to him, he always mentioned the Gators at the top of his list. He was on campus plenty of times and it only seemed like a matter of time before he committed to Florida. But that was not to be. Green started to look around, and as the fall progressed, the Gators seemed to regress in his mind.

However, things might have changed after a very eventful weekend for the Tampa Catholic wide receiver. Green was on campus with a handful of top recruits for an official visit and came away with a better feeling about Florida’s program. He headed into Gainesville with Florida State and Georgia as his leaders. He left with all three schools even.

“They are all around the same right now,” Green said. “I’ll probably know here in the next couple of weeks what I want to do. Right now, I’m fresh off the visit so (Florida is) pretty good right now.”

Green said he used this visit to see how the players really felt about the program and the coaches. He talks to Florida’s coaches all the time, but he wanted to see what the players really thought. He came away with a positive outlook on Florida’s players and coaches.

“I can see why they win so many championships and they win so much because of all the hard work they put in,” Green said.

Green figures to be a receiver in college and said playing a spread offense like Florida’s would be beneficial to him, considering all the opportunities he’d get to make plays in space.

“Florida gets its athletes in space and I feel like if you can get me in space that’s where I can do things with the ball,” he said.

The one thing Green said he’d like to see more of is new receivers coach Zach Azzanni. Former coach Billy Gonazles was his primary recruiter, but with Gonzales at LSU now, Green said defensive line coach Dan McCarney and coach Urban Meyer are now his primary recruiters. But if he’s going to play at Florida, Green said he wants to speak more with Azzanni.

As for his teammate, offensive lineman Chaz Green, Chrisitian said he felt Chaz had a good time but wasn’t sure what he was thinking. Chaz was considered a heavy lean to Tennessee before Lane Kiffin left for USC.

Rivals.com writer Adam Gorney did get a hold of Chaz, and it looks like Florida made up some much-needed ground for his services, but a trip to USC will happen later this month.

Here’s what he told Rivals about his visit to Florida and the chances of playing for the Gators …

“It’s definitely an option I’m considering,” he said. “Talking with coach Urban Meyer this weekend, I had a really, really good talk with him. There is a lot of good that came out of this. It’s one of the places I can see myself playing. I have to take my visit out to Southern Cal in a couple weeks and then just compare options.

“(Meyer) and I talk a whole lot. He was treating me like a son really. He wasn’t even talking about football. He was talking about what a degree is like from Florida and he was saying a normal person wouldn’t want to pass up that opportunity, getting a degree from Florida, and how many opportunities are available and what that degree means.”

As for Christian, he’ll be taking his final official visit of the year to FSU on the 29th and said he’ll make a decision either that Sunday or on National Signing Day.

Rivals rates Christian Green as a four-star prospect and the No. 5 athlete in the country. He finished his senior season with 663 yards passing and seven touchdowns while running for 777 yards and 11 more scores.

I don’t feel too good about these 2 guys. Something’s doesn’t sound right in their comments. There are certain words missing for someone who is really interested. Plus, they both have visits to other top schools. So, my money is on the side of not getting these guys. Call me crazy – just a gut feeling.

Sounds to me line 80% on Chaz and 50% on Christian.

I LOVE to get kids from Tampa.

The only issue is with 3 more spots?

IMHO: Chaz Green, Baxter and Jones are the finish. If we go +1 add Coxson.

Ditto, not feeling the love and sounds like their both looking for a reason to go somewhere else. It also sounds like they both know that UF is likely the best fit for them.

Will we get another QB other than Trey Burton?

Feel good about Chaz and so so on Christian. That last visit with FSU will probably be it for him. As long as we can end up with McCartney or Coxson as part of out WR haul, I won’t feel too bad about it. Glad we were able to secure Michael Taylor as LB will be a position of need, especially in the next class 2011. As long as everything remains as is for signing day, it’s hard not to feel real good about the future…

These are young men that need time to figure out what they want to do. I applaud them for being honest and taking time to make this very important decision. Hopefully, they will decide to be a gator instead of being gator bait.

Hey Greens, No offense, but if you do not want to be Gators – than OK, go elsewhere. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime for you. You compete for the NC every year. Passionate sold out fans. NFL prep, family atmosphere, gorgeous girls, climate & close to home. The opportunity to get a degree as valuable as any outside the IVY league.

Everyone now wants to be a Gator. This is most likely going to be the best class in FL history – that probably translate into at least 1 NC. Why would you want to go to the competition & get beat by the gators every year?

There’s only 3 scholarships left. If you don’t take one – the Gators will get 3 equal talents that will.

I read where Demar Dorsey is visiting USC next weekend. He had interest in Tennessee and USC, so he may now get both wishes with Kiffin at USC. If he did de-commit, that would leave 4 spots open on signing day, if there were no other defections.

I read they’re not very good. If we can’t land 4 and 5 stars from here out, I say we keep the scholarships for the 2011 class

Chaz Green is a stud and we should get him, the other one i’m not sure about. What i am sure about is Coxson. The quarterbacks in this years group aren’t very good. We will get a great one next year. Florida has superior facilities, conference etc. USC is about to be the NCAA’s b*tch and FSU is ours…lol

Either way i say we get Chaz and Coxson for sure. Green would be another guy but i think he loses and picks FSU.
