Ja’Juan Story not quite sure about keeping UF pledge

by

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Though he’s one of the more athletic prospects in the Under Armour All-America Game, Ja’Juan Story is still trying to get back into the swing of things.

Story, who is committed to Florida, has the tough task of moving from quarterback to wide receiver in less than a week. Story spent most of his senior year as Brooksville Nature Coast’s quarterback. So far, it’s been a tough adjustment for him, but he’ll need to get the basics down as he’ll be playing out wide at the next level.

“It’s like learning it all over again,” Story said.

Story showed signs of getting back into the rhythm of receiving a few times Sunday. He caught a nice touchdown pass during goal-line drills and ran some crisp routes here and there.

But he also showed he’s still raw. He cut the wrong way a couple of times and ran what looked like the wrong route on a Jeff Driskel pass to him that was intercepted.

Still, it’s early in the week and Story feels he’s improved with every lesson, and he’s enjoying the chance to play some of the best in the country.

“Every time you can compete it’s a good time,” he said. “It’s not tough, it’s fun.”

Story is also part of a Click-Clack (Red) team that features two other Florida commits. He has the luxury of being on the receiving end of a few passes from his future teammate in Driskel, as Story also runs routes alongside UF tight end commit A.C. Leonard.

However, Story isn’t as solid as those two. He has wavered a bit since Florida’s coaching shakeup. First, Story lost defensive line coach Dan McCarney, with whom he was closest. Then Urban Meyer resigned, and now receivers coach Zach Azzanni won’t be retained.

“It’s like everybody that I ever talked to there is leaving,” Story said. “It’s like I don’t know anybody.”

Story still considers himself committed to Florida, but he is checking out other options. He officially visited Oregon last month, and while he didn’t come away with an offer, he said wants one from the Ducks.

“It was really nice,” Story said of his visit to Oregon. “Everything was top of the line — top of the line players, coaches. Eugene was nice.”

Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and California are other schools that have contacted Story. He will visit Ohio State after the Under Armour Game.

Story has yet to meet new Florida coach Will Muschamp, but has spoken with him. Story said he’d like to officially visit Florida to meet all the new coaches and Muschamp before he makes a final decision.

if he wants to be a QB, he shouldn’t come to FL. He will not get to play. Switching positions isn’t a good thing. Driskel has a lot of hype — just as Brantley did. Unless he thinks the coaching staff will give him a chance to compete for the position, he should definitely look elsewhere.

OK — a bit misleading. Apparently, he was the number 5 WR recruit in the nation with 30 offers. So, I am not sure why you portray him as struggling to adjust to a “new” position. http://www.examiner.com/oregon-ducks-football-in-portland/oregon-may-steal-5-wr-recruit-from-florida

He played qb in hs. Most of the elite high school players play qb because it puts the ball in their hands the most. Ie., will hill, Joe Haden, chas Henry, etc…

Tony- “Switching positions isn’t a good thing”???? I guess you haven’t been a Gator fan very long since Joe Haden is notoriously a fomer high school QB. In case you didn’t know, Joe ended up becoming a 1st round draft pick at CORNER back….and made an immediate impact with the Cleveland Browns.

Ja’Juan will not be a Gator. Merely a prediction. Neither will AC Jackson. Coach Muschamp will not take these kids who are already trouble makers in high school. The ’30 arreats’ under Urban string is about to come to a halt.
