Agholor fond of Muschamp

by

Tampa receiver Nelson Agholor has everything he could ask for at Florida.

Early playing time.

Closeness to home.

Relationships with the commits.

But if the five-star ends up a Gator signee, there’s one relationship that will be responsible for it.

And it’s not that of prospect or player.

It’s the one he has with UF head coach Will Muschamp.

“I’m very privileged to be recruited by a head coach like Will Muschamp,” Aghlor said at the Under Armour luncheon Tuesday. “I think he’s a genuine guy. With all the things that have went on at UF, it’s big to know that your head coach is still in it and standing strong. He found a way to a bowl victory after a rough season. He’s found a way to keep the offensive commitments solid even though they lost their coordinator. So that speaks a lot to the head coach’s character.”

Agholor missed all the practices this week and is out for Thursday night’s game because of a sprained ligament in his right shoulder that he suffered in the State Semifinals against American Heritage.

It’s been hard for him sitting on the sidelines, but he’s still enjoyed the experience.

“Being a competitor is my No. 1 trait,” Agholor said, “so having to watch other guys go out there and battle is tough. But I’m making the most of it and I’m blessed to be an All-American.

“I’m out here being coached by some Hall of Fame guys and they’re great people. I’ve learned a lot just being on the sideline and understanding the different intangibles that these coaches bring.”

The recruiting process is beginning to wind down for Agholor, who has two officials left to Florida State and USC after taking visits to Florida, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder has handled everything in a professional manner because he knows this decision will affect him for life.

“This is going to be a four-year decision and you can’t rush something like that,” Agholor said. “Emotions come and go, so you can’t just jump on the first school you love. You gotta look at everything and make sure that your first love offers something that the other 40 (schools) don’t.”

It appears his first love is Florida, the school that close friend and four-star safety Marcus Maye is committed to. On Tuesday, Maye said Agholor told him UF is his top school this week. The two were roommates for the Under Armour practices in Kissimmee, Fla.

According to Maye, the only thing keeping Agholor from committing is Florida’s vacancy at offensive coordinator.

“I’m gonna take my time and see who this coordinator is,” he said. “Feb. 1 is the first day you can sign, but you have a month after that before the deadline. I’ll wait longer if I have to, but I think I’ll be ready soon. Once I take these two visits, I think by then Florida will have a coordinator and if not I’ll wait.”

I’m sure Muschamp appreciates his patience.
