Florida brings in four officials

by

UPDATE: Three-star DE Alex McCalister had a family emergency Friday and rescheduled his official visit for next weekend. He also postponed his announcement to Jan. 23.

Florida head coach Will Muschamp is hosting a commitment and three of his remaining targets this weekend.

The future Gator is Largo outside linebacker Jeremi Powell, who is taking his official visit earlier than planned so his mother could come. The four-star has been solidly committed since Febuary and received an in-home visit from Muschamp and LB coach D.J. Durkin last week.

UF is hoping to have more North Carolina luck with Clemmons, N.C., defensive end Alex McCalister, who is giving the Gators one last look before he makes his commitment Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. The 6-foot-7, 212-pounder visited back in the summer and is now making a return trip with his mother. North Carolina and Georgia Tech are the other finalists, but it’s believed to be a battle between the Gators and Yellow Jackets because of the coaching change in Chapel Hill.

Edwardsville, Ill., defensive tackle Vincent Valentine is also on campus this weekend. The three-star prospect checks in at 6-foot-3, 300 pounds and is being recruited by defensive line coach Bryant Young. UF currently trails Nebraska and Illinois on his leaderboard and the Gators appear to a long shot, especially with three DTs already in this class.

The final official visitor is four-star offensive tackle Jake Meador from Whiteland, Ind. The 6-foot-7, 305-pounder has been committed to Ole Miss since late June but opened up his recruitment after Houston Nutt’s resignation. Meador will arrive in Gainesville on Sunday and stay through Tuesday following his official visit to Indiana this weekend.

Florida was also expecting an unofficial visit from five-star defensive end Darious Hamilton, but he will now come down before or after his trip to Miami on Jan. 27.

Zach, thanks for doing a terrific job of keeping tabs on these recruits and our chances. Any recent word on Tracy Howard or Avery Johnson?
Or do any of your other readers know anything going on with these two guys? Meantime, I really like our chances with Meador and McAlister, as our program –even on its low end of the cycle — is so much higher profile than Ole Miss and North Carolina or Georgia Tech.
    Thanks, and Go Gators!

    Zack,
I get the feeling that Diggs is going somewhere else (?Auburn). What have you heard on this front?

Wouldn’t a class size of under 28 be considered a disappointment for Muschamp & Co.? I thought the target for this year was 28-38 players because of the loss of so many players since 2010, and the small class last year.

You will have to wait till 12 for more RBs but the good news we are in great shape with the elite ones.

Zack…. do you know if Diggs and or Agholor has some type of relationship, are they wanting to see if the other is going to committ before making a decision. A lot of times these big time recruits want to come in and have all the attn to themselves.. Hopefully someone is pitching the idea of them being a great receiver tandem if they both came to UF.

I am doing the math….Seems like each player is worth at least 100 points or more! we just got up to 20 today….We add 7 more and we have to be anywhre between 1-4 in our class!!!!! And all 3-4 and 5 star athletes…..Seems like the staff really knows how to recruit!!!!
