The Opening and the Elite 11 quarterback competition, two of the premier events for the nation’s top recruits, kicks off this weekend at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

Florida has two fewer verbal commitments attending than it did in 2012 (7), but the five future Gators going this year could provide more excitement for fans tuning in on ESPNU.

That’s because UF has a quarterback pledge participating in recording-setting passer Will Grier, who is taking part in both events and will look to make his case as the No. 1 QB in this recruiting cycle. The Elite 11 workouts start Saturday and continue Sunday.

The Opening, which kicks off Monday and runs through July 3, features four commits in addition to Grier — running back Dalvin Cook, cornerback Duke Dawson and defensive tackles Khairi Clark and Anthony Moten.

The combine will be televised by ESPNU on July 1 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., July 2 from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and July 3 from 9 p.m. to midnight (all ET). Coverage includes the SPARQ Rating National Championship, 7-on-7 pool play, the Lineman Challenge Finals and the 7-on-7 Semifinals and Championship.

There are also two prospects announcing who list Florida as a finalist, but don’t expect either to pick the Gators. Ponte Vedra linebacker Dillon Bates is Tennessee-bound unless he pulls a shocker, and Clemson is in the driver’s seat with Tarpon Springs East Lake receiver Artavis Scott.
