Ten UF commits headed to All-American games

by

Recruits start reporting this weekend for the three All-American games next week.

Florida will be represented by a total of 10 verbal commitments, although one may be committed elsewhere come Thursday.

That would be running back Dalvin Cook, who is one of four UF commits playing in the Under Armour All-America Game. The early enrollee will make a final decision at halftime, and his finalists are Florida, Florida State and Miami.

The other three pledges are receiver Ermon Lane, athlete J.C. Jackson and cornerback Quincy Wilson. Lane and Jackson also appear to be wavering on their commitments, while Wilson is one of the most solid members of Florida’s 2014 class.

Quarterback Will Grier, offensive tackle David Sharpe, defensive tackle Khairi Clark and cornerback Chris Lammons head to the Army All-American Bowl, and offensive guard Nolan Kelleher and cornerback Duke Dawson are taking part in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.

Hopefully, we can get that second in-home visit with Cook and Lane and bring Roper too. They have to be able to meet the new OC.

Cook will be enrolled wherever he chooses to attend by the time the dead period is over, so there is no hope for an in home with him.

Zach, are you allowed to announce a school you are committed to already? Seems like no “committed” player should be able to make any type of announcement much less announce the same school. Thoughts?

I don’t like the looks of this. I’d much rather have Cook playing with Grier and other solid commits like that rather than wavering “commits”. This could be a very bad domino effect. Let’s hope Wilson is able to do some good recruiting while he’s with them!

Its America. Any player should be able to announce or say they are committed any time they want. The issue here is that full grown adults take the “commitments” of children so seriously. Thats why people get upset when the players dont honor their “commitments”. I said when Cook committed and when Phillips “committed” that these kids’ word dont mean anything. Instead of accepting it as fact, some people blasted me as being “negative” and not a “real Gator”. I guess reality has set in now that both of them are possibly headed somewhere else other than Gainesville. People should follow recruiting casually because it is nothing but fairly tale until the players sign the LOI.

Lt…. I always agreed with u! I actually don’t bother following recruiting anymore, just casually read the articles. I actually don’t care who we get & what their star ratings r because I want the kids that want to b a Gator, & not a kid who is liking the colors or who is hot at the moment! True Gators r who we need, who will actually b committed…and play their hearts out for THEIR school! So tired of the way recruiting is so over-rated lately & these darn kids r acting like it is a draft & they r the greatest…..ho-hum…..whatev!

    Zach,

Will you be able to get any info on how the solid commits are working on those that are not solid? In other words I would like to know if the guys that are Florida commits and targets are having a great time playing together and end up wanting to stick together because they were able to hang and gel. We have seen this in the past and I am hoping this happens with so many at one game.
    Thanks,

    Matt

Get players who want to be Gators and want to be coached up…..no matter what star they are rated. Star ratings are so overrated. But coaching players up is not. And that has been the problem for Florida on the offensive side of the ball. Hopefully, Roper will fix the problem and players will want to come to Gainesville because they want to be coached up. That has not been happening…..at least offensively…..so far under Muschamp. Change is good and hopefully the future will be bright under an OC that has a history of coaching up players, especially QBs.

    Zach,
Is Holley still solid with penn st?

I agree with Harold, doesnt really matter about stars if you do not produce. We need players like Grier who wants to be a Gator no matter who’s the coach or anything else. I am tired of all these transfers because they arent as good as the stars indicate and non producing All American’s. I wonder how many 5 Star players Louisville has, they seem to beat the crap out of people,,, ask Miami and our beloved Gators. Heck with STARS give me PRODUCTION.

Any idea if Grier has been talking to Lane and Cook? I thought Lane wanted to play with Grier, and Grier knows a little about the new OC and seems excited about it. Since it’s a dead period, he could be the best recruiter for us before they make their decisions.
