Gardner, Tisdale announce early enrollment plans

Florida coach Jim McElwain only had a pair of early enrollees for 2015, one of whom has since transferred. It will be a much different story next year. Half of the Gators’ 2016 class, currently at 14 members, is working to enroll in January. The latest commits to make early enrollment plans are Rivals100 cornerback Chauncey Gardner and athlete Tyrek Tisdale, who announced their decisions on Twitter this week. Cleveland names 10 finalists

A week after visiting Florida for the first time, four-star wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland has the Gators among his finalists. The top-100 overall recruit released his top 10 schools Tuesday night on Twitter. UF made the cut along with Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona State, Baylor, Georgia, Houston, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas A&M. The Gators and Texas teams are considered the favorites for Cleveland, who was formerly committed to the Aggies. Gardner, Joseph named top IMG performers

Florida had four verbal commitments compete in the IMG 7-on-7 national championship over the weekend. A pair of them were defensive players, and both were named top performers on their side of the ball by Rivals.com. The recruiting service chose cornerback Chauncey Gardner, a Rivals100 member, as the No. 1 defensive player in the tournament. Gardner announced Monday he will in the Under Armour All-America Game. Boudreaux, Becker list Gators among favorites

Two recruits out of the Orlando area listed Florida in their group of top schools Wednesday. Four-star offensive guard Parker Boudreaux (6-4, 287) named UF as one of his five finalists, along with Clemson, Georgia Southern, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. Three-star defensive back Carlos Becker (6-2, 185) has the Gators in his top 10 with Arkansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi State, N.C. High-profile Texas teammates visit UF

Despite Florida’s struggles the past couple of years, the Gators have still been able to successfully recruit the Sunshine State. However, when UF or any school can recruit on a national level, it shows the football program is thriving. FBS commissioners shelve early signing period

After two days of debating over an early signing period, FBS commissions voted Wednesday not to have one this recruiting cycle. According to reports, the decision was tabled for one year and the Collegiate Commissioners Association will reconsider the early signing period proposal at the 2016 meetings in Asheville, N.C. The proposal, if passed on a two-year trial basis, would have instituted a 72-hour signing period for high school recruits this December, in conjunction with the junior college signing date (Dec. 16).… Read More »

Victor, Ridley postpone decisions

Florida likely had big news coming on the recruiting trail later this month. Now, UF and colleges from around the nation will have wait. Four-star wide receivers Binjimen Victor (6-4, 173) and Cavin Ridley (6-2, 195), who planned to make their verbal commitments on June 22, have decided to push back their announcements. Josh Hammond is turning heads on the summer camp circuit thus far. Last Friday, the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder competed in Florida’s 7-on-7 tournament with his Hallandale teammates and turned in the best performance of the three UF wide receiver commits on hand. Joseph works out with Shannon

Gators linebacker commit Vosean Joseph visited Florida Tuesday with a few of his teammates from Miami Norland. The ESPN300 member attended one of UF’s spring practices in March, but he was no spectator on this week’s visit. The Gators are still looking to add some defensive tackles to their 2016 class, and two of the nation’s top prospects at the position visited UF in recent days. U.S. Army All-American Antwuan Jackson (Ellenwood, Ga./Cedar Grove) camped at UF on Monday, and consensus top-250 recruit Darius Whitfield (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul’s) made it to campus Saturday.
