Farrell: UF class will take hit, then resurge with new coach

by

Florida lost its first commitment since the season started on Tuesday when linebacker Jerome Baker flipped to Ohio State. Unfortunately for the Gators, Baker is likely a sign of things to come. With UF coach Will Muschamp’s job in jeopardy, the once-promising outlook for Florida’s 2015 class can’t even be seen through orange and blue glasses now. “The recruiting class is done,” said Mike Farrell, the national recruiting analyst for Rivals. “I think it’s going to fall apart, and then you’ll see a … Read More »

Clemson commit, several future Gators visiting UF

by

Florida’s south end zone bleachers won’t be as packed with recruits tonight as it was last weekend for LSU, but the Gators are still hosting some important visitors for the Missouri game. The most intriguing name is a wide receiver Deon Cain, a consensus top-50 overall prospect from Tampa Bay Tech. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder committed to Clemson on May 30, but that hasn’t stopped the Gators from pursuing him. This visit will go a long way in facilitating a potential flip for … Read More »

Merrick contemplates a UF commitment during visit

by

Offensive guard Jalen Merrick attended his second Florida game of the season last weekend when UF played host to LSU. The 6-foot-5, 317-pounder from New Smyrna Beach enjoyed watching the Gators despite their loss. “It’s always great to be back in The Swamp,” Merrick said. “It always feels really cool, especially when they come down by the goal line. It’s always loud. “It hurts to see anybody lose, especially when you’re interested in the team. But I know they’ll bounce back when they play … Read More »

Zach’s Mail Stack 10/16

by

My Mail Stack has been getting lighter and lighter each week, as many of you seemingly don’t have much to ask about recruiting and/or you have more questions and concerns about the future of this coaching staff and football team. And that’s totally understandable. Nearly every comment section turns into a debate about something other than the subject of the story. As one fan told me this week, it’s hard to care about recruiting when it’s uncertain who Florida’s coach will be … Read More »

Davis attends first Florida game

by

Miami Booker T. Washington cornerback Da’Vante Davis attended his first Florida game Saturday against LSU. He visited with teammate Devonaire Clarington, ESPN’s top-ranked tight end for 2015. “It was pretty good,” Davis said. “The atmosphere was crazy.” Davis said the loss by the Gators, who offered him in the summer, didn’t bother him. “They were out there making plays,” he said. “It’s still good. They stack pretty high (on his list).” The 6-foot-2, 183-pounder holds more than 20 offers but appears to be focused on four schools. He … Read More »

Commit of the week: WR Kalif Jackson

by

Kalif Jackson has been on a roll recently after returning from injury four weeks ago. The Florida receiver commit had a total of three touchdowns in his first two games back, and now he’s racking up receiving yards as well. After hauling in two catches for 87 yards and a score last week, Jackson had his best game of the year Friday. The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder caught two touchdowns and set season highs in receptions (6) and receiving yards (125) in a 41-36 loss … Read More »

Norton hoping current coaches remain at Florida

by

Kendrick Norton has been a regular in Gainesville since his decommitment from Florida State in early June. The four-star defensive tackle was back in town Saturday to watch the Gators take on LSU. “It was a good experience, but it sucks that they lost,” Norton said. “But overall everything was good. “It was a great atmosphere and it was really loud. It was really a great game.” Norton said he spoke to UF’s staff briefly after the game. The coaches, like him, were upset about the … Read More »

UF visit opens Frasier’s eyes

by

Consensus four-star running back Johnny Frasier committed to Florida State two months ago, but that hasn’t stopped other schools from pursuing him. The Gators have turned up the heat on Frasier recently, and he decided to reward their efforts by attending Saturday’s game against LSU. “They’ve picked up my recruitment,” he said. “I want to give them a chance. I like the team atmosphere and how the coaches treat the players.” Last weekend’s visit was his first to Gainesville, and it exceeded his … Read More »

Clarington sees opportunity with Gators

by

Tevin Westbrook’s dropped touchdown pass late against LSU for the go-ahead score was a huge blow to Gator Nation. But if it’s any consolation, Devonaire Clarington — ranked the nation’s No. 1 tight end by ESPN — shares your agony. “The tight end dropping a pass, that right there was heartbreaking to me,” said Clarington, who attended the game. “I can’t watch a tight end drop a pass. That hurt my heart. It was an easy catch. He was too open. But hey, that … Read More »

Jefferson sympathizes with UF’s defense

by

Days after having surgery on his shoulder, five-star defensive end CeCe Jefferson was back in The Swamp to watch Florida take on LSU. It was a game he couldn’t miss. “This one was good, man,” Jefferson said. “You know there is still a lot of work to be done with the Gators and LSU. Both teams came out hard, but one team made less mistakes and it showed at the end.” Outside of the coverage breakdown on third-and-long late in the game, Florida’s … Read More »
