Everyone loves the local star.
Gainesville might not produce the best Division-I (yeah, I said D-I) talent, but every now and then someone breaks that mold. You had Chris Doering back in the day. There was Clinton Portis a few years back. Vernell Brown. Cornelius Ingram is considered a local. And Earl Okine is the most recent Gainesville guy to make it to the big show.

The new Rivals.com Rivals100 came out Tuesday and to no surprise, Florida commits showed up in abundance.
Of Florida’s 12 verbal commits, six of them – Matt Elam (5), Victor Hampton (51), Jonathan Dowling (52), Ian Silberman (59), Jaylen Watkins (65) and Gerald Christian (82) – appear in the top 100. Only Texas has as many, and usual recruiting king USC has just three.
