This blog is dedicated to recruiting, I understand that, but I thought I’d change things up a little today. In honor of the opening week of college football and the final opener for the Gators’ Tim Tebow, I thought I’d get a perspective about Tebow’s time as a high schooler.
I was at the Columbia-Fort White game last Friday and instead of the obvious Timmy Jernigan-Tiger Powell shout out for Monday’s blog, I’m going the Tebow route. But no worries my … Read More »

A UF-Georgia feel to it
It won’t quite be Florida-Georgia, but tonight’s matchup between Lithonia, Ga., Martin Luther King and Decatur, Ga., Southwest Dekalb has the feel of it.
Gator fans are sure to be familiar with MLK. Prize commitment Mack Brown only totes the rock there. Southwest Dekalb? Well, bruising running back Kendrun Malcome and defensive end T.J. Stripling are the headliners there. But what’s so special about those two? Well, both spurned Florida for Georgia.
I’m not too familiar with Stripling and … Read More »

I only got one question this week, but I decided to check out the message board and see what the buzz was. There is still continuing talk about Jeff Luc. Miami, Columbus running back Jakhari Gore’s name appeared. And Tulsa, Okla., Tulsa Central athlete Demarco Cobbs has come up in conversation. I’ll address it all. On to the question!
I have heard some rumblings lately on Victor Hampton and Demar Dorsey no longer being on Florida’s board. Is this … Read More »

Prep standouts back to work
Most of the country is still in practice mode, but plenty of high schools have already kicked off their football seasons. One player who will be very high on Florida’s board next year that has started his season is 2011 quarterback Christian LeMay. His father Stacy was the Gators’ chaplain for two years when Urban Meyer arrived, but left to start a church in Charlotte, N.C.
Christian, who threw for 1,800 yards and 16 touchdowns as a sophomore … Read More »

It’s good to see that even with fall practice in full swing and the recruiting season calming down for a bit that my readers are still asking questions. Just goes to prove how important recruiting is to the fans. On to the questions!
With the sad news about Paul Wilson, does this affect how many receivers or players in general that we accept? Could this open it up so we accept a Lynden Trail and Quinton Dunbar package, or did we … Read More »

Catching up with Mack Brown
Florida is getting exactly what it wants in Lithonia, Ga., running back Mack Brown. He’s a big (5-foot-11, 195 pounds), athletic back that can tote the rock on every down. He’s basically everything the Gators wanted out of Emmanuel Moody that they’ve yet to get.
I caught up with the top-rated running back over the phone while I snacked on some Mellow Mushroom pizza Monday night (green peppers and … Read More »

Lots of questions this week, so I won’t bore you with a long intro. Gotta love the recruiting queries during the start of fall practice. On to the questions!
With 16 commitments already before fall practice, how many do you see Florida ending up with on National Signing Day? Also, how many potential five-stars?

I think the goal for Florida’s coaches was to have either 26 or 25 commitments by the end of Signing Day. With Stephen Alli already enrolled, I … Read More »

Alli a bit of an experiment
Stephen Alli doesn’t know it yet, but his actions in the next couple of years could play a huge role in how schools recruit athletes.
Let’s start with the facts. Alli intended to play two years of prep school football, but decided against it once he got Florida’s offer and enrolled early to get a head start on the playbook. Even at 6-foot-6 and 207 pounds, according to Urban Meyer Alli runs a legit 4.4 in the 40. He’s also played … Read More »

Sifting through the ESPN 150
The first official rankings of the ESPNU 150 Class of 2010 came out earlier this week and according to ESPN, the Gators hit the mother lode. Florida has nine of its 16 verbal commitments on the list, and five of them are ranked in the top 25 (Texas is the only team with more with 10 players in the 150). Florida also either has a verbal or is on the short list for six of the top 10 players.
Wow. Just, … Read More »

It’s been an interesting couple of days for Florida. A 2010 commit who graduated a year early decided to enroll at UF now. Riley Cooper decided to come back and play football in his final year. And all before fall practice starts Thursday. Naturally, fans are wondering about the Stephen Alli situation and how the receiving unit will look in the next couple of years. All that and much more. On to the questions!
How does (Stephen) Alli coming in early … Read More »
