Only got one question this week, but I think it’s good enough to warrant a public answer. “Theo” wants to know about some of the 2011 prospects Florida is interested in. Sure, it’s still early in the 2010 recruiting season, but in this day and age, schools are getting a start on recruiting much earlier. Florida had four commitments in its 2010 class before the second week of October last year. Nothing has happened yet this year, but there’s still … Read More »

Checkin’ out Deonte Welch
I’ll step away from Florida recruiting for a bit to start the week and give some props to a local guy.
I checked out the Williston-Keystone Heights game Friday night. Great game really, but there was one player who truly stuck out to me. Williston senior running back Deonte Welch isn’t that big and isn’t that intimidating when you see him. Then, he steps out on the football field. He was the centerpiece in the Red Devils’ fantastic rushing attack that … Read More »

Ask Aschoff 9/23
Last week’s mailbag got bumped with all the recruiting info last week. I took out a couple questions with some new ones I got. On to the questions!
How do you see the Andre Debose injury affecting our 2010 WR recruiting? Do you think we take another WR to play the “Percy” position in case?
Also, do you think the coaches have considered playing Demar Dorsey as a WR? His measurables are similar to both Percy Harvin and Debose.

Florida-Tennessee aftermath
If Gator fans would step away from the ledge after what some fans are calling Florida’s 13-23 loss to Tennessee, I’d like to point out how the future is indeed bright for UF recruiting following a pretty successful weekend.
Forget that there were no public commitments. Florida’s already filled 15 of what I think will eventually be 26 spots, and it’s still really early. So early that there were only a couple official of visitors at the game.
Let me also digress … Read More »

NFL receivers make Meyer look good
While he wouldn’t confirm it, it sounded as though Urban Meyer was defending his spread offense Thursday. The spread has been criticized for a while about how it doesn’t properly develop players for the NFL. This kind of stuff can hurt a team as far as selling your program to high school kids who have the goal of playing in the pros one day.
Pahokee receiver De’Joshua Johnson (Florida State commit) dropped the Gators in the spring because of the … Read More »

Victor Hampton decommitment
According to Rivals.com, Darlington, S.C, cornerback Victor Hampton has officially backed out of his commitment to Florida. In an interview with Rivals, Hampton said he had tried to call members of Florida’s staff to see if the rumors about his scholarship being pulled were true, but he was unable to get a hold of anyone. While he wanted to remain a Gator, Hampton said it’s best for him to move on.
“I haven’t heard from them, it hurts me, but I’m … Read More »

Revisiting Nu’Keese and Teague
Tennessee week is upon us and what comes to mind when you think Tennessee and recruiting? Obviously, it’s last year’s fiasco with Nu’Keese Richardson and Marsalis Teague!
If you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, here’s what happened with these guys.
First, it was Teague, one of the top players in the state of Tennessee in 2008 who worried Florida fans with his not-so-confident decision to stay committed to the Gators. He originally pledged to the Gators in … Read More »

Freshman playing time has impact
Even if coaches aren’t on high school campuses or inside the homes of prospects this time of the year, recruiting is still on their minds. Other than a couple of current commitments, Florida didn’t have many big-time recruits in its end zone for the opener against Charleston Southern. Still, coach Urban Meyer and his staff were trying to impress the big fish who weren’t in attendence.
Saturday was the first time since Meyer came to Gainesville four-plus years ago that a … Read More »

Updated Rivals100 rankings
Since my private messaging wasn’t working this week, I couldn’t get anyone’s questions. I apologize for that. It’s being worked on in our corporate offices, and I will post on the GSMB recruiting message board to let you know how to send your questions later this week.
So, for this Wednesday, I’ve got the updated Rivals.com Rivals100 rankings. It was not a good go-round for Gator commits this time. Most of the future fell in the rankings and a couple … Read More »
