I hope everyone is ready for the new year because I’m sure Florida’s staff is. Or isn’t, depending on the Urban Meyer situation. His latest move has really caused a stir in the recruiting world, but things seem to be OK for the Gators right now. Most of the prospects I talked to said that while they are close to Meyer and badly want him as a coach, they are committed to UF, not Meyer.

It’s Christmastime in Gainesville and while many want a bowl victory from Santa, there are still some presents that fans — and Florida’s coaches — would like to open under the recruiting tree. Some good things happened this month for the Gators (Cody Riggs and Robert Clark committing), but Florida also lost out on defensive end Chris Martin (California), linebacker Jeff Luc (Florida State) and receiver Kenny Stills (Oklahoma). USA Today released its All-USA high school football team Wednesday and many players involved with Florida made the cut. I’m not going to put the entire list up, but I’ll show you guys Gator commits and other guys of interest to Florida.
Florida has four commits on the All-USA team.
Offensive Player of the Year: Seantrel Henderson (6-8, 301 pounds), OL, St. Paul, Minn., Cretin-Derham (undecided)

With the loses of receivers coach Billy Gonzales (LSU) and defensive coordinator Charlie Strong (Louisville) I wanted to know how the recruiting visits and talks were going with the other Florida assistant coaches. Running backs coach Kenny Carter said early last week that even without those two — who were considered top recruiters for the Gators — he and the other assistants haven’t had to adjust much.

In a few weeks Trey Burton will be making the biggest move of his life. He’s leaving behind the easy, celebrity life of being quarterback at Venice High and moving up to Gainesville to be a part of Florida’s quarterback family.

Interesting news coming out concerning Florida recently. It’s almost the final stretch of the recruiting season and things are starting to heat up as players get ready to turn their phones off and their heads on. Early enrollees will be deciding soon and finally official visits will be taken.

It didn’t take long for Charlie Strong’s departure to hurt the Gators (see Jeff Luc to Florida State), but now Florida has to be frustrated about losing out on Aurora, Colo., Grandview defensive end Chris Martin, too. UF quarterback commitment Trey Burton clicked immediately with West Chester, Ohio, Lakota West linebacker Jordan Hicks this past weekend. Rivals.com rates Hicks as the No. 1 linebacker in the country and the 12th-best prospect nationally.
