McFarland coming in June

by Edward Aschoff

Michael McFarland has made yet another change in his collegiate plans. Days after announcing that he would be grayshirting this fall and not reporting to Florida until January of 2011, the Tampa Blake tight end commit is now expected to arrive in Gainesville in June, he said Wednesday night. McFarland said Florida coaches informed his high school coach, Harry Hubbard, Wednesday that they were no longer interested in grayshirting him. Originally, McFarland accepted the grayshirt during his official visit this past weekend … Read More »

Dorsey decommits from UF

by Edward Aschoff

Earlier this afternoon, Rivals.com reported that Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson safety Demar Dorsey was officially taken off Florida’s commitment list. Just to confirm, a source informed me that Florida’s coaches are no longer pursuing Dorsey and that he is no longer committed to Florida. Dorsey did not return calls or text messages on Wednesday. Dorsey’s drama-filled recruitment finally came to an end for UF, and it seems that Florida’s staff didn’t want to continue playing the game that he was so … Read More »

Hicks to pick school on Friday

by Edward Aschoff

It’s finally coming to an end. On Friday, West Chester, Ohio, Lakota West linebacker Jordan Hicks will end his recruitment. The consensus No. 1 linebacker in the country is down to Florida, Texas and Ohio State, but most are saying this is a two-horse race between Florida and Texas. Hicks has been quiet for most of the recruiting season and has worked primarily through a weekly teleconference. Yes, he’s THAT high-profile, I guess. The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that Hicks will … Read More »

Ask Aschoff 1/27

by Edward Aschoff

Well, folks, this is it. This is the last “Ask Aschoff” before National Signing Day and I’ve got a treat for you. Instead of the usual four or five questions, I’ve decided to extend the mailbag by two more questions, just to give you as much information as I can before a busy next Wednesday. The Gators have at least three spots left in the the 2010 class and those should be reserved for the best players they can possibly … Read More »

Weekend was hard to predict

by Edward Aschoff

Sunday was supposed to be for football watching. The NFC and AFC championships were supposed to be the only things football-related that I would care about. Sure, there were three official visitors in Gainesville over the weekend, but there wasn’t supposed to be much noise coming from any of them. Defensive end Ronald Powell was — and still is — as solid a Florida commit as they come, and this visit wasn’t going to change any of that. Tight end commit Michael … Read More »

Corrected: Final Scout.com rankings

by Edward Aschoff

Forgive me recruiting gods, for I have sinned. OK, so I admit that I made a mistake. Last week, I wrote a blog about Scout.com’s final recruiting rankings. I even said I had to disagree with where they put a few prospects, including some Gator commits. Well, I had every right, except, those rankings HADN’T been updated. I thought they were, but they were old. I saw that a few Gator fans weren’t too happy with the Scout rankings I … Read More »

Notebook: Recruits talk about new UF coaches

by Edward Aschoff

One of the things many people have worried about during this recruiting cycle has been how recruits have reacted to the relatively different looking Florida coaching staff. Charlie Strong was such a strong recruiter and one of the most well respected defensive coordinators in college football. Now, he’s at Louisville. Billy Gonzales was probably Florida’s most personable recruiter behind Urban Meyer. Gonzales was so good that he could pull any sort of player, and he was just a receivers coach. Now, … Read More »

Ask Aschoff 1/20

by Edward Aschoff

National Signing Day is just around the corner, meaning it’s going to get a lot more intense around Florida’s recruiting board. The Gators are pretty stable at this point in the recruiting season, which has to have coach Urban Meyer feeling a little less stressed. He’s done a great job in the last month and things figure to continue to get better form here on out. There’s some insight into next year’s class, a sigh of relief for Gator fans … Read More »

Dorsey another Nu’Keese situation?

by Edward Aschoff

It looks like Florida could have another Nu’Keese Richardson situation on its hands. If you don’t remember, Richardson was the standout receiver at Pahokee last year who had been committed to Florida for the longest time and appeared to be far from wavering. That was until then-Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin got a hold of him. Richardson ended up taking a late and surprising visit to Knoxville. Come National Signing Day, Richardson fooled everyone by signing with the Vols. The same thing could be … Read More »

Lynden Trail doubling as a UF recruiter

by Edward Aschoff

If you thought Florida’s coaches had a busy weekend with recruiting, check out Miami Booker T. Washington defensive end commit Lynden Trail’s plate. He was on campus this weekend for his official visit, but spent a lot of time meeting and greeting. Sure, he’s been to Florida before and is pretty familiar with Gainesville, but this weekend Trail used his time a bit more wisely. He was getting to know new defensive coordinator George Edwards and checking out the other … Read More »
