Norton feels at home in Gainesville

by

Kendrick Norton is back on the market following his decommitment from Florida State earlier this week, and Florida appears to be early front-runner for the versatile lineman. Norton is an offensive guard and defensive tackle for Jacksonville Trinity Christian but prefers the latter position. That played a part in his decision to back off his pledge to the ’Noles, who wanted him as a guard. “(Defensive tackle) is where I’m going to play in college,” he said. “So I just want to take … Read More »

Muschamp offers fast-rising CB Davis

by

Over the past month, the offers have been rolling in for cornerback Da’Vante Davis of Miami Booker T. Washington. He committed to Syracuse on May 6, then received a dozen offers before backing off his pledge May 29. Davis added another school to his offer list Friday following his performance at Florida’s 7-on-7 tournament. “(Will Muschamp) was telling me I had an offer, and they liked my size and how I moved,” Davis said. “It was big. I felt like I did good. … Read More »

Florida strengthens its lead for Callaway

by

One of the most impressive prospects at the Will Muschamp 7-on-7 tournament Friday was receiver Antonio Callaway. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder showed great hands and speed on Miami Booker T. Washington’s team. He transferred to the back-to-back Class 4A state champions after his junior season at Homestead. Callaway was offered by both Florida and Miami on May 14 and named the Gators his top team shortly afterward. His visit to UF on Friday strengthened that lead. “It just boosted it up and made me want … Read More »

UF still after Cain despite his Clemson commitment

by

Florida is trying to flip a receiver committed to Clemson for the third consecutive year. The Gators were able to do it in the 2013 cycle with Demarcus Robinson, but they couldn’t change the mind of Artavis Scott in the last class. Now UF will try its luck with Deon Cain, a U.S. Army All-American who pledged to the Tigers on May 30. One week removed from that decision, he was back on Florida’s campus Friday for the Will Muschamp 7-on-7 tournament for … Read More »

Jones invited to Elite 11

by

Sheriron Jones is heading to Oregon. No, the Gators haven’t missed out on another quarterback. The four-star prospect was invited to the Elite 11 on Monday. The prestigious competition takes place during ‘The Opening’ combine in early July at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. Former NFL player Trent Dilfer and a group of coaches select 18 of the top high school quarterbacks in the nation for the event. UF freshman Will Grier competed in it last summer and finished No. 3 in … Read More »

Muschamp not worried about negative recruiting

by

“Will Muschamp is going to get fired.” “Florida’s 2012 season was a fluke.” “The Gators are loaded at your position.” Those are the type of things UF prospects have probably been hearing from opposing college coaches, especially with the black eye from 2013 still swollen. Muschamp was asked about negative recruiting and how he deals with it during his speaking tour last month. For one, he can’t control what schools are saying about his. “In recruiting,” he said, “there are no rules.” Muschamp said recruits and their … Read More »

Gators making noise in Louisiana

by

Florida coach Will Muschamp knows how hard it is to recruit Louisiana. He did not land any defensive prospects from there in his three years as an assistant at Texas, a neighboring state, and signed just one in two years as Auburn’s defensive coordinator. Muschamp has also experienced the flip side, having coached three years at LSU and landed in-state players at will. But as Florida’s head coach, Muschamp is starting to have success in Louisiana. Incoming freshman defensive lineman Gerald Willis III chose … Read More »

Florida’s WR board without Cain

by

Florida receiver target Deon Cain chose Clemson Friday as expected. UF currently has two wideouts committed in Deondre Farrier and ESPN300 member Tristan Payton, but Farrier and the Gators are reportedly expected to part ways in the future. Though Payton is proving to be a solid prospect, Florida still needs to add a few more players at the position for 2015. Sitting atop UF’s board is George Campbell, a consensus top-50 recruit out Tarpon Springs East Lake. The Under Armour All-American will wait until that … Read More »

Brown sets decision date

by

Rivals250 offensive tackle George Brown is five months away from making his verbal commitment. The 6-foot-6, 261-pounder from Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods revealed Thursday that he will announce his decision on Oct. 28. “It’s a birthday present to myself,” he said. “It will be a special day for me.” Brown has garnered more than 50 scholarship offers and will put together his top 15 before the fall. He’s already made several visits in his recruitment and plans to take additional trips over the next … Read More »

UF eliminated by teammates Gibson, McFadden

by

Time to cross quarterback Torrance Gibson and cornerback Tarvarus McFadden off Florida’s recruiting board. The consensus top-100 prospects and Plantation American Heritage teammates announced their finalists this week, and they’re no longer considering UF. Gibson named a Top 7 on Thursday with Tennessee and Auburn as co-leaders, while McFadden revealed his favorites over the weekend and had Florida State at No. 1. To anyone who follows their recruitments, UF being eliminated should come as no surprise. Both have shown little interest in the … Read More »
