Thomas not concerned about Muschamp’s future

by

Four-star linebacker Adonis Thomas is less than two months away from making his decision, and Florida got one last crack at him earlier this week. The Under Armour All-American visited UF from Sunday to Tuesday for summer camp with Todd Wofford, his high school coach at Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett. It was Thomas’ fourth trip to Gainesville since February, and Wofford said his star player has built strong relationships at Florida. “He likes the staff a lot,” Wofford said. “He likes the fact … Read More »

Merrick likes Summers’ coaching style

by

If the energetic and intense Tim Davis still coached the offensive line at Florida, the Gators might not have a shot at fast-rising guard Jalen Merrick. The 6-foot-5, 317-pounder from New Smyrna Beach is currently unrated by ESPN and a three-star prospect on every other site, but his list of 33 offers consists of several elite football programs, including Alabama, LSU and Ohio State. All the in-state schools have offered as well, and Merrick camped at UF this past Saturday. “It was a great … Read More »

Recruits react to Phillips’ resignation

by

Florida receivers coach Joker Phillips resigned Wednesday, and assistant Chris Leak will take over his position on the staff. UF incoming freshman Ryan Sousa, who flipped from Florida State to the Gators in December of last year, was devastated by the news. “I’m sad to hear it,” he said. “He was one of the reasons I came to Florida. He’s surely going to be missed. He was a big asset as a coach.” Unlike Aubrey Hill, whose recruiting skills were expected to be missed more … Read More »

McDuffie lands offer after camping at Florida

by

It’s hard for prospects to attend summer camps with the hope of earning an offer. By this time of year, college coaches have already been through the spring evaluation period and developed their recruiting board. However, another name was added to Florida’s on Monday. Cornerback Jeremy McDuffie earned an offer from the Gators following his performance at UF camp. The 5-foot-11, 169-pounder from Snellville (Ga.) Shiloh knew he had his work cut out for him heading into the session, but he was a … Read More »

UF bucks QB trend with Jones’ commitment

by

If history had repeated itself in the 2015 recruiting cycle, Florida would not have landed Elite 11 QB invitee Sheriron Jones over the weekend. In the past 12 years, the Gators have signed two quarterbacks in a class on four occasions. When it happened the first three times, what transpired afterward with UF recruiting was almost textbook. Florida signed Chris Leak and Justin Midgett in 2003 and did not get a quarterback the following year. Midgett, ranked the state of Florida’s No. … Read More »

Gators in great shape for Bello

by

Montverde Academy offensive tackle Abdul Bello camped Saturday at Florida, marking his fourth visit to the school. He is not your average in-state lineman. Bello, a former boxer, moved from Nigeria to the United States in 2013 to pursue a football career. His recruitment took off in late January and hasn’t slowed since, with several elite programs making the 6-foot-6, 297-pounder a top priority. The Gators were the first team to offer Bello as well as host him for a game and an … Read More »

Norton feels at home in Gainesville

by

Kendrick Norton is back on the market following his decommitment from Florida State earlier this week, and Florida appears to be early front-runner for the versatile lineman. Norton is an offensive guard and defensive tackle for Jacksonville Trinity Christian but prefers the latter position. That played a part in his decision to back off his pledge to the ’Noles, who wanted him as a guard. “(Defensive tackle) is where I’m going to play in college,” he said. “So I just want to take … Read More »

Muschamp offers fast-rising CB Davis

by

Over the past month, the offers have been rolling in for cornerback Da’Vante Davis of Miami Booker T. Washington. He committed to Syracuse on May 6, then received a dozen offers before backing off his pledge May 29. Davis added another school to his offer list Friday following his performance at Florida’s 7-on-7 tournament. “(Will Muschamp) was telling me I had an offer, and they liked my size and how I moved,” Davis said. “It was big. I felt like I did good. … Read More »

Florida strengthens its lead for Callaway

by

One of the most impressive prospects at the Will Muschamp 7-on-7 tournament Friday was receiver Antonio Callaway. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder showed great hands and speed on Miami Booker T. Washington’s team. He transferred to the back-to-back Class 4A state champions after his junior season at Homestead. Callaway was offered by both Florida and Miami on May 14 and named the Gators his top team shortly afterward. His visit to UF on Friday strengthened that lead. “It just boosted it up and made me want … Read More »

UF still after Cain despite his Clemson commitment

by

Florida is trying to flip a receiver committed to Clemson for the third consecutive year. The Gators were able to do it in the 2013 cycle with Demarcus Robinson, but they couldn’t change the mind of Artavis Scott in the last class. Now UF will try its luck with Deon Cain, a U.S. Army All-American who pledged to the Tigers on May 30. One week removed from that decision, he was back on Florida’s campus Friday for the Will Muschamp 7-on-7 tournament for … Read More »
