Bruce satisfied with offensive showing

Sam Bruce has been to every major event since Jim McElwain took over the Florida football program. He first attended the spring game and then came to Friday Night Lights, UF’s annual recruiting showcase in July. This weekend he returned for the Gators’ season opener, and they didn’t disappoint him. “It went great,” Bruce said. “They threw the ball around a lot and put up a lot of points. That’s definitely what I came out to see. “They looked very… Read More »

Top WRs, several commits among Saturday visitors

More than 20 recruits will be on hand for Florida’s season opener tonight. The biggest visitors are three of UF’s top wide receiver targets — Nate Craig-Myers, Sam Bruce and Freddie Swain. Swain’s teammate, four-star defensive end Jordan Woods, is also coming. The Gators are in great position for all four prospects, including Miami commit Bruce. Four-star wideout Ricks Wells is one of seven 2016 commits visiting, joined by Chauncey Gardner, Stone Forsythe, Brett Heggie, Lamical Perine, Jayvaughn Myers and Tyrek Tisdale. Zach’s Mail Stack 9/3

Welcome back to the Mail Stack! I’m sure you all are as excited for college football as I am. Hopefully the offseason treated you well. As some of you know, I got married in the spring and took a few trips this summer. That got me re-energized for football and recruiting coverage, and it’s been great getting back into the groove of things this past month. I’m anxious for Florida’s season to start this weekend. There’s finally some excitement and intrigue… Read More »

Commit of the week: WR Josh Hammond

Josh Hammond continues to build a name for himself as a football recruit. The Florida wide receiver commit shined on the summer camp circuit and did so again Saturday in his team’s season opener. Hammond got open at will and had more than 100 receiving yards on eight catches, including three touchdowns of 11, 31 and 37 yards. The UF legacy also had a 59-yard touchdown reception called back due to a false start. His Hallandale team pulled out a… Read More »

IPF impact on recruiting

When recruits visit Florida this fall, the first thing they’ll want to see won’t be football stadium or locker room. UF’s new indoor practice facility opened over the weekend and has already generated excitement in recruiting. “It’s really, really cool,” said Gators cornerback commit Jayvaughn Myers. “The facility is huge, and it’s nice for the football team to have. It’s a great look for Florida. They’ve never had one, so recruits are going to loving seeing it when they come.… Read More »

UF a potential landing spot for Town

Florida is hoping to land another quarterback for 2016, and a new option has emerged for the Gators. Southern Cal true freshman Ricky Town decided to transfer from the school Sunday. The U.S. Army All-American and Elite 11 finalist was a consensus four-star recruit in the 2015 class. The California product flipped from Alabama to USC after offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier left the Tide for Michigan. Nussmeier, now at UF, should make the Gators a player for Town. Gators need flip to take two QBs

For Florida to sign two quarterbacks in the 2016 class, the Gators will likely need a flip. Four-star QB Dillon Sterling-Cole, a top target for UF in recent months, pledged Tuesday to Arizona State. With him off the board, the Gators don’t appear to have an uncommitted prospect they can pursue at the position. UF offered and landed Kyle Trask over the weekend, and he informed the Sun that Florida wants another QB for 2016. The Gators are expected to… Read More »

Florida finds QB for 2016

Friday Night Lights continued producing for Florida on Sunday. The Gators landed their fifth recruit from Friday’s showcase with the verbal commitment of quarterback Kyle Trask of Manvel, Texas. “I felt like it was a place I could call home for four years,” said Trask, who was offered by UF on Saturday. Rivals and 247Sports rate Trask a two-star prospect, but it’s likely not a reflection of his ability. For the past two seasons he’s been the No. 2 QB… Read More »

Moon becomes commit No. 4 from FNL

Jeremiah Moon entered Friday’s visit to Florida as one of the recruits on commitment watch. The Hoover, Alabama, linebacker was last prospect to leave UF after Friday Night Lights, but told the Sun he didn’t make his pledge. After staying overnight in Gainesville, Moon returned to campus Saturday and pulled the trigger, giving the Gators four commits from FNL. Florida landed offensive lineman Brett Heggie, defensive back Quincy Lenton and 2017 wide receiver Daquon Green on Friday. “I want to… Read More »

VIDEO: UF lands two commits at FNL

Commitments started coming in for Florida before Friday Night Lights even began. Defensive back Quincy Lenton and 2017 wide receiver Daquon Green both made pledges to the Gators during their visits to Gainesville. Lenton discusses his decision, first reported by the Sun, in the video below.
