Get the latest buzz on UF recruiting

Fulton high on Florida

Jim McElwain and his staff continue to grow UF’s recruiting footprint. McElwain’s first priority was locking up in-state talent, and the Gators are gradually getting there and have made huge strides in South Florida. After having zero 2014 signees from Georgia, McElwain and his assistants nabbed five Peach State prospects in the 2015 class. They’ve since landed commitments from Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. Now they’re looking to invade Louisiana. UF running backs Tim Skipper, born and raised in New Orleans,… Read More »

McElwain, staff on the road recruiting

The bye week has allowed Florida coach Jim McElwain and his staff to hit the recruiting trail in full force this week. McElwain visited four 2016 recruits on Monday, three of whom are committed to other schools. He and tights ends coach Greg Nord went to Crawfordville Wakulla for LSU quarterback commit Feleipe Franks and wide receiver Keith Gavin. McElwain also spent the day seeing WR Eli Stove (Auburn commit) and defensive end Janarius Robinson (Florida State commit). Offensive coordinator Doug… Read More »

Muschamp owns up to not offering Johnson

Will Muschamp couldn’t contain it any longer. He likely had this feeling in 2014, but a second time was too much to bear. After Kentucky wide receiver Garrett Johnson torched his defense once again Thursday, the Auburn D-coordinator and former Florida coach had a word with the Orlando product after the game. “I screwed up (your recruitment),” Muschamp told Johnson. “I’m a dumbass. You’re a hell of a player.” Will Muschamp to Garrett Johnson, who never received a scholarship offer… Read More »

Zach’s Mail Stack 10/15

Well, it’s been quite a week in Gainesville. Will Grier’s suspension. Steve Spurrier’s retirement. Deiondre Porter’s arrest. The crazy news week has almost taken away from the huge game going down this weekend in Baton Rouge. Fortunately for Florida, the incidents involving Grier and Porter shouldn’t take away from UF’s recruiting momentum. Some of you asked if this would negatively impact prospects and/or their parents, and I don’t believe it will. Grier’s PED use was an isolated situation and not… Read More »

UF recruiting benefiting from support staff

Expanding Florida’s support staff was one of the first things Jim McElwain crossed off his agenda after taking over the football program. McElwain increased the number of quality control specialists and graduate assistants, then beefed up the recruiting office. Prior to McElwain’s arrival, director of player personnel Drew Hughes had quite a workload as he coordinated UF’s recruiting efforts. He remains at Florida in the same capacity, but McElwain brought in additional staff members to assist him and the coaches.… Read More »

Zach’s Mail Stack 10/8

Coming off an even bigger win last Saturday and another electric atmosphere in The Swamp, the Florida Gators might be the hottest team on the recruiting trail right now. UF didn’t have the number of visitors it had for Tennesee and some recruits who were scheduled to attend the Ole Miss game didn’t make it, such as Nate Craig-Myers and Antonneous Clayton. Nevertheless, the south end zone bleachers were packed once again and the recruits there as well as the… Read More »

Green ‘fully committed’ following Ole Miss game

Daquon Green was one of several Florida commits in attendance for the Ole Miss game this past weekend. Green, a four-star recruit for 2017, pledged to UF back in late July at Friday Night Lights. The Tampa Bay Tech wide receiver called himself 100 percent committed to the Gators following their win over the Rebels. “It makes me stronger (to Florida),” Green said. “I’m fully committed. I’m not looking at any other schools. All my visits will be here.” The… Read More »

Burnett commits to Gators

Last weekend’s comeback win over Tennessee generated tons of recruiting buzz and momentum for Florida football. Saturday’s rout of No. 3 Ole Miss produced a commitment for the Gators. Pahokee athlete McArthur Burnett pledge to UF following its 38-10 win over the Rebels. He chose Florida over Florida State and Miami, the school he was formerly committed to, among others. Burnett camped at UF on June 8 and decommitted from the Hurricanes two days later. He then returned to Gainesville… Read More »

Top UF targets returning for Ole Miss game

Some of Florida’s top recruiting targets will be back in The Swamp this weekend. Highlighting Saturday’s visitors list is five-star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers. This is his third trip to UF in a month after attending the New Mexico State and Tennessee games. Top-100 defensive end Antonneous Clayton, four-star wide receiver Freddie Swain and coveted in-state offensive tackle Marcus Tatum are also returning from last weekend. Another four-star wideout, Tre Nixon, will be at the Ole Miss game as well… Read More »

Zach’s Mail Stack 10/1

I’ve spoken on a few radio shows this week and listened to others, and the excitement I’ve felt from fans has been awesome. Gator Nation was numb for days after the win over Tennessee, and some of you might still be. That was an incredible game and atmosphere we witnessed last Saturday in The Swamp. And I can tell you the recruits who were there enjoyed it just as much as you all. I talked to a handful of them… Read More »
