Florida staff using social media as recruiting tool
The Florida football staff is going on the offensive when it comes to social media.
Over the past month, UF’s assistants have picked up their presence on Twitter and Instagram in an effort to attract more offensive recruits to the Gators.
It appears to be the brainchild of new recruiting coordinator and receivers coach Joker Phillips. He was the first offensive coach to post pictures with a personal hashtag — his is #ComePlayWRForTheJoker.
Offensive coordinator Brent Pease, running backs coach Brian White, tight … Read More »

Choate gives UF another solid recruiter, evaluator
Florida’s new special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach Jeff Choate meet with the UF media for the first time Wednesday.
Choate will hit the road on May 1 to start evaluating prospects.
Like the other assistants on staff, his primary focus is going to be the state of Florida and Southeast region of the United States. But he will also be responsible for some of the areas Bryant Young recruited as well as the state of Texas, where he’s had success … Read More »

Dawson named No. 1 defensive performer at IMG
Duke Dawson feels recruiting analysts are sleeping on him.
He woke some of them up over the weekend.
The Florida cornerback commit from Cross City Dixie County competed in the IMG 7-on-7 Southeast Regional Tournament and was named the No. 1 defensive performer by Rivals.com.
“Because I come from a small town with (Class) 1A football, they think I can’t compete with guys that are going to 7A and 8A schools,” Dawson said. “I want to show people that I can be an All-American … Read More »

Offer puts Florida among Wynn’s favorites
Up until this past week, St. Petersburg Lakewood offensive guard Isaiah Wynn was certain about one thing in his recruitment.
“I didn’t want to stay in-state,” he said. “And because of that, I really didn’t like Florida.”
A phone conversation with UF coach Will Muschamp changed all that.
Wynn was offered by Muschamp on Wednesday and immediately moved the Gators into consideration.
“That was my first personal offer from a head coach,” Wynn said. “And how I felt when I was talking to him just … Read More »

Knox knocking on the decommitment door
Florida could be on the verge of losing one of its Junior Day commits.
DeLand offensive tackle Benjamin Knox visited South Florida on Friday for the second time in week and put a percentage on his UF pledge after the trip.
“It’s at 55 percent now,” Knox said. “I’m still committed to Florida, but I’m open. I just want to see my options. I don’t want to just go to Florida and then not like it.”
Although the Bulls haven’t offered Knox, he called … Read More »

ESPN releases recruiting and team rankings
ESPN released its first 2014 recruiting and team rankings on Thursday.
Texas took the top spot and Florida checked in at No. 2, followed by Texas A&M, LSU and Florida State.
Four of UF’s nine commits made the ESPN150, which is less than half of what the Gators debuted with in 2013. Nine of their verbals were in the initial rankings last year, but they already had 15 members in the class.
Florida once again leads all states with 26 players in the … Read More »

Choate could deliver some Texas recruits
When Will Muschamp was hired as Florida’s head coach, many wondered whether or not the former Texas defensive coordinator could open up a pipeline for the Gators in the Lone Star State.
It hasn’t happened.
Muschamp and his assistants have targeted the Southeast, specifically the state of Florida, and delivered results in their three and a half years on the recruiting trail. UF hasn’t signed any recruits from the state of Texas since 2008 (Omarius Hines and Adrian Bushnell).
But that could change … Read More »

Paul will take visits but says he’s solid with UF
Florida offensive line coach Tim Davis stopped by St. Augustine High School in New Orleans on Tuesday to see UF lineman commit Joseph Paul.
The 6-foot-4, 340-pounder was offered by the Gators in February and took an unofficial visit to Gainesville on March 16.
Three days later, Paul pulled the trigger.
“I just loved everything about Florida,” he said. “I can’t wait to get down there again.”
Paul spoke to UF tight ends coach Derek Lewis, his primary recruiter, on Monday and then chatted with Davis … Read More »
