FBS commissioners shelve early signing period

After two days of debating over an early signing period, FBS commissions voted Wednesday not to have one this recruiting cycle. According to reports, the decision was tabled for one year and the Collegiate Commissioners Association will reconsider the early signing period proposal at the 2016 meetings in Asheville, N.C. The proposal, if passed on a two-year trial basis, would have instituted a 72-hour signing period for high school recruits this December, in conjunction with the junior college signing date (Dec. 16).… Read More »

Florida likely had big news coming on the recruiting trail later this month. Now, UF and colleges from around the nation will have wait. Four-star wide receivers Binjimen Victor (6-4, 173) and Cavin Ridley (6-2, 195), who planned to make their verbal commitments on June 22, have decided to push back their announcements. The standouts from South Florida were expected to choose the Gators. Victor visited Gainesville during the spring and Ridley camped at UF last week. Both named Florida… Read More »

He taught a lot of new things,… Read More »

Pair of DT prospects praise Rumph

The Gators are still looking to add some defensive tackles to their 2016 class, and two of the nation’s top prospects at the position visited UF in recent days. U.S. Army All-American Antwuan Jackson (Ellenwood, Ga./Cedar Grove) camped at UF on Monday, and consensus top-250 recruit Darius Whitfield (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul’s) made it to campus Saturday. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Jackson chose to work out despite competing in the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge over the weekend. “I just came to get better at… Read More »

UF visit reaffirms Perine’s decision

Running back Lamical Perine, a longtime Florida fan, committed to the Gators late last month. However, he had yet to meet or speak with UF coach Jim McElwain or visit the school since the new staff took over. Although Perine had no doubts about his pledge, Saturday’s visit to Gainesville did nothing but reaffirm the decision. He and his family spent time with McElwain running backs Tim Skipper during the trip. “It’s just amazing being out here, I love it,” he… Read More »

He faced fellow future Gators Josh Hammond and Isaiah Johnson in the tournament, and WR target Cavin Ridley also competed against him. Wells is excited about Florida’s receiver class for 2016. “Everyone of them can make plays,” he said of Hammond, Johnson and Ridley. “It’s a good class and all of us can make big plays down the field. It’s a big class,… Read More »

Bailey camps at UF, plans to return

JaQuan Bailey made it to Gainesville for the start of Florida’s summer camps Friday, but he didn’t come for the linemen camp. The Gators defensive end commit instead chose to join his Jacksonville Raines team in the 7-on-7 tournament. Several UF coaches had their eyes on him during the games. “I was kind of nervous, but I still had fun,” Bailey  said. “It was a great opportunity to play in front of them.” Miami, North Carolina and Virginia Tech are… Read More »

Johnson found perfect fit at Florida

Florida wide receiver commit Isaiah Johnson competed in Florida’s 7-on-7 camp Friday with his high school teammates. The 6-foot-3, 208-pounder from West Palm Beach Dwyer made a handful of plays throughout the tournament. “It was fun,” he said. “I thought I did good. They were doubling me a lot, so I didn’t get to do as much as I wanted to.” Johnson enjoyed being able to perform in front of the UF coaching staff, especially wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon,… Read More »

UF is in the running for another receiver from South Florida. A few months removed from landing Antonio Callaway on 2015 signing day and Isaiah Johnson for 2016, the Gators have the interest of four-star wideout Cavin Ridley. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder from Deerfield Beach released his top schools Wednesday, naming a top five of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and LSU.
