Get the latest buzz on UF recruiting

Zach’s Mail Stack 11/12

It remains to be seen if Florida had a “Perfect Thursday” on the practice field, but it certainly had one on the recruiting trail. The Gators landed one of the state’s best defensive ends in Jachai Polite and had two recruits (JUCO athlete Dre Massey and TE Darel Middleton) list them on top. UF is also days removed from an SEC East title and could now flip two Rivals100 members, QB Feleipe Franks (LSU) and WR Eli Stove (Auburn), after their visits… Read More »

Stove ‘75 percent’ committed to Auburn after visiting Gators

Florida’s recruiting efforts with Eli Stove are making headway. The Niceville wide receiver visited UF twice in the spring, but decided to commit to Auburn on May 30. However, the Gators have continued pursuing Stove and got him back on campus Saturday for the Vanderbilt game. “I like Florida a lot, it’s a good school,” Stove said. “I fit pretty well if I came here. I loved the atmosphere, it was amazing.” The UF offense scored its lowest point total… Read More »

Franks makes surprise visit to UF

Florida looks to have zeroed in on a target as it searches for a second quarterback in the 2016 recruiting cycle. LSU commit Feleipe Franks made a surprise visit to UF on Saturday for the Vanderbilt game. It was Franks’ first time in Gainesville since the 2013 season. “The visit and game was fun,” Franks said. “It was good to get back down here for a game. Everything about it was fun, the game was good and the atmosphere was… Read More »

Visitors list for Vandy game

Florida’s first home game in more than a month will draw top recruits to The Swamp. The Gators are set to host another impressive group of wide receivers Saturday, including a pair of Auburn commits from the state of Florida. Niceville’s Eli Stove and Crestview’s Marquis McClain are coming to check out UF. Stove, a Rivals100 member and Under Armour All-American, is one of the Gators’ priorities at the position and was high on them before committing to Auburn back in… Read More »

Zach’s Mail Stack 11/5

What a time to be alive. College football is at its best in November, I still got a week’s worth of my son’s Halloween candy and Florida’s football team and recruiting class are both ranked No. 10. OK, so the first two were bound to happen, but I’m still dumbfounded by the Gators and the year they’re having. It’s fun to be living Gainesville right now, and despite Saturday’s noon game, it should be an exciting weekend with homecoming and… Read More »

Florida’s newest commit shuts down his recruitment

One commitment Florida fans don’t have to worry about is Antonneous Clayton. Some of UF’s 2016 class members, while strong in their pledges, still plan to take official visits to other schools. Clayton will not be one of them. The consensus four-star defensive end and top-100 overall prospect tweeted Wednesday that he’s shutting down his recruiting process despite having 38 other offers. Clayton attended the Florida-Georgia game this past weekend and visited UF for the Tennessee game earlier this season.… Read More »

Saban offers UF commit from Alabama

A Florida commitment has yet to help Lamical Perine earn a fourth star, but his latest offer might. The Theodore, Alabama, running back committed to UF back in May after receving an offer from Gators coach Jim McElwain and his staff. Now McElwain’s former boss, Nick Saban, has followed suit. Alabama’s coach offered Perine personally on Tuesday. “I spoke with coach Saban,” Perine said. “He told me they’re going to be a little short on running backs next year and they want… Read More »

Notebook: Eason follows Nussmeier

Twitter was abuzz Monday night over Jacob Eason. The Georgia quarterback commit followed Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier on Twitter two days after UF’s 27-3 win over UGA. Eason, a five-star recruit, told 247Sports the Gators have reached out to him and said he followed Nussmeier so they could communicate. UF is still looking to land another quarterback for its 2016 class in addition to Kyle Trask. That second signal caller will likely be a flip for the Gators, and… Read More »

Zach’s Mail Stack 10/30

The Mail Stack comes to you a day late after spending my Thursday night covering Eastside against Gainesville, my alma mater. It wasn’t much of a game between the rivals, as GHS shutout the Rams, 41-0. I’m sure you Florida fans are hoping for a similar result in Jacksonville. I don’t expect the Gators to embarrass Georgia like they did last year, but I do expect them to beat UGA. That will basically clinch the SEC East for UF, which… Read More »

McElwain now a known commodity on recruiting trail

Jim McElwain no longer needs a name tag when he’s visiting the high schools of football recruits. The Florida coach and his staff hit the road early last week and attended several games Friday. It was McElwain’s first experience out recruiting since the end of the 2015 cycle when he took over the UF program. At the time, McElwain wasn’t a big-name coach despite his track record and hadn’t recruited the state of Florida since 2011. With his team off… Read More »
